About us: Who we are
The London Tari Club (‘Lontar’ for short) is strictly and exclusively a private members club whose underlying aim is to promote close social and fraternal relationship amongst its specially vetted members and their respective families. Its activities are expressly non-political, non-governmental, non-partisan and non-secretive. It is essentially a high profile UK-based networking social club of close friends.
The club was founded in London on Sunday 9th March 1997 by a group of friends as a forum for social interaction amongst busy professionals, intellectuals and socialites from different disciplines and business backgrounds. It provides a useful platform and unique opportunities for members to share common goals, explore and promote positive ideals within a framework of mutual support and co-operation. Quality use of time within a mutually supportive and creative environment underpins the core values of the club.
The club reaches out to the wider community through its well known ethos of “a friend of a member is a friend of the club” and its annual support of a number of Charities.
Lontar is an Ijaw-oriented club, all club members being of Ijaw heritage. Indeed, the word “Tari” (part of the club’s name) derives from the Ijaw dialect meaning “oneness” or “to cherish”.
Our key aims and objectives
Promote a purely social and harmonious forum for members to meet and interact periodically, getting away from the rigours of routine work and sharing some quality time with friends.
Create opportunities to consolidate and celebrate existing relationships based on mutual respect, support of one another, equality and love of all members and their families.
Create avenues for second generation Nigerians to get to know one another and learn and promote their cultural heritage.
Promote a focus group for business networking opportunities aimed at encouraging individual resourcefulness and mutual career development.
